Cabooses 122 and 123

Walker Coe photo. Cochrane, Ontario. July 9, 2003.

Connected to some extra Polar Bear Express coaches, these two now hold down rails in the Cochrane yard. Replaced by EOT's, these now await a call of a breakdown of an EOT, or the call of a work train.

The prototype imitated the models with these cars. They were built as kits by National Steel Car in Hamilton, Ontario, then shipped (by rail, of course!) to North Bay where the ONR shop forces assembled them. I wonder what the savings on the cars were building the kits themselves?
Can you imagine the instruction sheet? Carefully read all instructions before starting. Do not twist parts off of sprues!

These were some of the last cabooses ever built. They began service in the early 1980's.
