ONR 1731 and 1736

Walker Coe photo. July 2002. North Bay, Ontario.

With the looks of their flanks, there isn't much there to protect these two from sunburn. These ONR SD40-2's don't look as good as sister's 1730, 1734 and 1735 in the flashy O.N. Rail scheme, but they are still nice to look at. Rumor has it that these units might be for sale. They are stored servicable, they only need new trucks, and a rebuild (like 1730, 1734 and 1735), and parts replaced that have been used on other rebuilt units. Throw a new coat of paint over it, and they should be perfect! I was in North Bay this summer, and these units had been moved, although I'm not sure for what. 1731 was connected at the short hood to the long hood end of 1736, reverse order. Maybe with the new government in power in Ontario these units will be repainted and rebuilt and put back into service. Here's hoping! This shot was also off of 1600.  The red brick building in the background is the shop facility powerhouse.
