Canadian Pacific Power
Walker Coe photo. June 2003. MP 59.02 MacTier Sub, Utopia, Ontario. Alot of power was placed on today's train 435. An example of numerous paint schemes was presented in this train except the modern "beaver" or "rodent" scheme. The power included an AC4400CW, 6 SD40-2's, and 1 SD40-2F. This all keeps a railfan interested! Total power: 25,400 Horsepower!!!
It was explained to me later that CP will only allow 8 locomotives on the point of a train due to weight restrictions over bridges etc. One has to wonder if they can put another 8 units at the end of the train if power is needed at a different yard. The 8 unit rule was broken in the Rocky Mountains where there would be 8 units pulling, and up to another 8 pushing on the tail. It sure wasn't because of the grade here that this horsepower was being utilized, because it wasn't a very long train. Most units were isolated, running but not contributing to the power. The AC4400 and 2 SD40-2's should have handles this train with ease!
