Canadian National/Canadian Pacific detour
Walker Coe photo. May, 2003. Mile 59.02 MacTier Sub, Utopia, Ontario. I've seen everything now, and I don't know how to classify this photo, is it CN or CP?? Well, the train is CN, and the track is CP. This is a detour train because of the derailment in Gamebridge, Ontario which closed the line for several days. This train was led by a SD60F, a GP40-2W and an SD40-2W.
The train was split in 2 to clear another road crossing about 1/4 miles away. The train had sat here for a while because a detoured train #1, the "Canadian" struck and killed a pedestrian in Alliston, Ontario. If I had not been on my way to operate a great model railway layout, I would have taken the time to wait for #1 for some photos.
This is my favourite place to shoot after dinner. The combination of the light angles and the trees makes the lighting extremely dramatic. Catching a northbound here for most of the day is difficult because of obstructions, and the fact that it is almost north-south here.
