Ontario Northland EGU 203

Walker Coe photo. Cochrane, Ontario. July 9, 2003.

A rebuilt Milwaukee Road F7B, now a Ontario Northland Electrical Generating Unit (EGU) sits connected to 1802 and 'The Northlander' in Cochrane before the 1000 mile journey south to Toronto. These units also serve on the Polar Bear Express and the Little Bear providing power for lights, air conditioners and heaters and for cooking equipment in the diner.
During the black out of 2003 (just over a month after this was taken) an EGU was used to light the Cochrane shops so work could continue on locomotives, EGU's and cars while the rest of the town was in the dark. See www.onrgallery.com for more information on how the ONR unloaded the Polar Bear Express that night.
