ONR 1306

Ontario Northland Railway photo. North Bay, Ontario. Date and photographer unknown.

Built by MLW in 1951, RS3 1306 sits in front of the North Bay shops of it's owner. Retired in 1985 and cut up in 1997, this unit had a service life of 34 years, and wore 2 different paint schemes.

Note several 'uniquenesses[?]' of this unit visible in this photo. First off, try looking out of the side windows! They are painted over, denoting this unit as a 'B' unit, being M.U.'ed with other units as a booster. It was sure not hard to know what number the ONR RS-3's were as they had the unit number on them 10 times!

Also another unusual feature of this unit is this is the conductors side of the locomotive. Unlike the GP9's (1600's), and the RS-10's (1400's) , the 1300's ran long hood forward (the rest ran short hood forward).

The chevron paint scheme sure suited the 1300's very well.
