BLACK WALNUT CAKE
Cream
together:
1
stick butter
½
c Crisco
2
c sugar
Add 5 egg
yolks one at a time.
Mix 1 c
buttermilk with
1 t baking soda until soda dissolves.
Add 2 c White
Lily plain flour and 1
c buttermilk alternately.
Add 1 t
vanilla
1
c chopped black walnuts
1
(3 oz) can flaked coconut(optional)
In a separate bowl, beat 5 egg whites and ½
t cream of tartar until
stiff. Fold into batter. Pour into 3 greased layer pans and bake at 350o
for 30 minutes.
Cream Cheese Frosting
Mix
together:
¾ c soft butter
11 oz cream cheese
6 ¾ c xxx sugar
1 ½ t vanilla
