NO TERROR FOR NO BODY: MEETING MINUTES
Kris facilitated the meeting. She began by reminding folks that the AML is reserved fro 6-9 on Tuesday the 25th for the V-Tech letter writing campaign. For those of you that haven't written a letter or who don't know about the situation, Shelli Fowler and Karen DePauw left WSU for V-Tech, Shelli was originally offered spousal accommodation, but the Board of Visitors chose not to honor the offer made by the department. The board will be meeting again in March, and this is an opportunity to show Shelli and Karen support by urging the administration to reconsider.
It was decided that Sunday will be a day for many No Terror >activities. At 3:00, please come by the Bundy to work on more signs for the rallies and the letter. At 5:00, the next edition of the
Nobody will be put together. For those folks who are contributing articles, photos, anything, please send them along to The Nobody News by 5:00 on Sunday.
We are going to use Ayah's letter, and we've decided to add a specific component in reference to SEVIS and international students. We decided to initiate a No Terror for Nobody International Student Support Fund--a collection of money to defray the cost of SEVIS registration $54/international students) and to defray the cost of legal representation for those that want to have help from a lawyer. We're going to include a request for monetary support for this
initiative from the administration as a way of putting pressure on them to take a stand and lend real support. I've contacted Mary Furnari, and she's very excited and interested in this--she'll be contacting the financial officer to figure out how to distribute the money that we give to them (she wanted me to "extend our sincere thanks to No Terror for Nobody. It really is great to see this kind of interest and support for our students!").
Tyler told us about PeaceNet, which Kasja is helping organize in Moscow. We agreed to be a part of it, agreed to offer the use of the no terror event calendar for distribution of info if they didn't already have plans to make a calendar, and Liz was nominated to be the contact person for our group (since she's doing the calendar stuff already here). Brett said that he's given her Kasja's contact info.
Christina told us that NOW is putting together a booklet for the Women's Art Fest (Saturday, April 5), and they would like for folks to contribute articles, poetry, reviews of bands, etc. if No Terror folks are interested.
Christina has looked into reserving sound equipment for a rally on March 5, but was unable to get permissions because of ASWSU election reservations. She's got us table space for that day, though. She's >also starting to organize an event that will incorporate visual arts in a gallery show as well as speaking, performance, spoken word.
I was given the go-ahead to start organizing a teach-in that incorporated more elements of our mission statement in a single event, which is called, tentatively, "A War on Everyone"--if folks
have suggestions for participants or would like to participate, please let me know.
Next Thursday, we're going to be taking part in a discussion about the war with the Zeta Phi Beta sorority at 5:30 in Butch's Lair. There was some confusion about the format, and I've contacted SiSi for clarification. If there people are to present small informative >presentations, we have two people willing to present. If you are interested and willing to present/discuss at the event, please let us know over the list.
Al announced that Integrity and the K-House are sponsoring a film >festival on Social Justice and have extended an offer of co-sponsorship to us. No Terror has agreed to co-sponsor a night,
and we need to provide refreshments for the occasion. Al, would you like to be the contact person for this? And could you send out the dates for the nights when you can?
No Terror also agreed to provide drinks for the MESA film festival on the 24, 25, and 26. We have seven people willing to bring drinks, but if more folks would like to, please volunteer by
contacting Kris (kristinen@pullman.com) to get on the list.
Farah, Nate and Al let us know that they attended the Disability Awareness Association meeting, and that that organization is no longer in danger of loosing the funding for the van thanks to having enough of a turnout to fill the positions to keep going (thanks you guys!). Farah and Nate suggested that No Terror's support for the org should extend beyond just having our names on paper, however, and that we should become involved in helping out that program in whatever way we can. They're having an event that they'd like us to help advertise, and Farrah had some ideas about school visitation to provide educational sessions to remove the stigma often associated
with visible or non-visible disabilities. The group is set to meet on Mondays at 6:00 in the GLBTA center.
We were asked for and gave suggestions for proposals for the CAN national conference. We suggested a statement in support of international students and against SEVIS, and we suggested a
national database that would allow for the distribution of info about local events that take place within the national org, and we suggested getting info about how other campuses are organizing local events.
No Terror also decided to commit $50 from our budget to help pay for the trip.
Finally, there was a host of announcements:
The Muslim Student Association is showing a film on Malcolm X today in CUE 202 from 3:30-5.
This Sunday, PPC will be presenting a non-violence workshop at the Unitarian Church from 4:00 to 7:00 on Sunday (4-5:30 Rusty Nelson >from PJALS will introduce the workshop; 5:30-6:00 is a potluck >dinner; 6:00 to the end is a q&a session).
The Vagina Monologues will be performed for three days starting on February 28 at Wadleigh Theater at 7:00. Tickets are available >($5-students; $7 non-students) at the door.
On Tuesday the 25th, at 5:30 at the Gladish Community Center, the African American Association will be having a "Black History Celebration" banquet. (please add more info for this, and correct me if I wrote this down wrong).
On March 1, the Black Women's Caucus will holding a Women of Color Day program and luncheon in the CUB Ballroom (again, please add more info for this, and correct me if I wrote this down wrong).
That's all I have.
