Minutes of the March 9, 2003 PPC Meeting
At 7:00 several committee meetings were held; The main meeting convened at 7:35. About 22 people in atendance. Ron Hatley Chair.
There was a potluck in Pullman, at about the same time, in support of the local Muslim population, which was well attended; talk was about the Peace/Justice and Foreign groups supporting each other; some of those folks came into our meeting at around 8:00.
Teach-in Commitee:
Voices in the Wilderness presentation Anna Bachman would come over from Seattle; we will pay her air-fare, give her a room. We will consider tying in the event to a local medical supplies to Iraq drive.
I). More talk needed on this
II). We need to explore using the group name for this
III). VITW has suggestions for mailing a >12 oz package to get publicity
IV). Possibly this needs to be done by an affinity group Main event is in Pullman, more places if possible. We need to tell the press way ahead of time, line up interviews, etc. April?
Dena will check with Anna about the event, what she is up for, etc.
Joy Gordon Presentation Title: “The Human Impacts of Our Iraq Policy”, 4/24/03? We need a panel $200 stipend, from Raul? We will ask Raul about the other group/people he recomended
Bertie will talk to Raul more, and I guess to Joy as well.
Videos set for the next three Thursdays
I). 3/13 “Paying the Price” 7:00- Whitwater Room- UI Commons
II). 3/20 “Confronting Empire” & “Robert Fisk” 7:00- UI Campus Christian Center

b) Ron will/has told WSU groups that they may show any of our videos if they want.
Fundraising Committee: Did not report really; there was loose concensus that fundraising wasn’t our primary mission. We seem to get good donations from our events. Dean repors that we have over $800 right now. Apparently we have no outstanding bills.
Networking Committee:
1) Did not really report. We heard in this context from the media committee, who has started meeting and organizing press releases and so on.
Emergency action plan was discussed:
12:00 noon the day after, protests at Friendship Square (5:00 PM as well?). The WSU students have something planned as well at around that time with a 11:15 class walkout. Chris sent a poster to the student groups earlier, and will send it to all the relevant PPC people as well.
Organizational Committee:
Didn’t really report: we didn’t meet, just emailed. Kajsa, Jim and Bertie were added to Dean, Chris and Kenton.
Saturday (3/8/03) Event at the federal building: Huge Success! Good publicity and press coverage.
Prayer events: We should hold more prayer meetings, including people who might have children in the war(s)
Money from the parade prize:
People thought we might send it to the Red Cross or UNICEF (as voices in the wilderness could be too wierd? or something; we don’t want to be associated with supporting Iraq). Dean bought the certificate from us so that we have the cash ($50) to use as we see fit.
Draft Counciling and C.O. information was tabled till next week.
Code Pink/yard signs/american flag pins/ribbons/cards,etc. We liked the code pink idea so much we want to go for the “pink ribbon = peace” thing in a big way hang signs/ribbons in our yards
give away ribbons have a sign making party?
Chris will buy some USA flag pins to hold the ribbons onto people Ron will ask the Sleepless Sisters Society if we can run with “their idea”, basically just check if our help will be appreciated.
Patriot Act:
Convergence on the Whitehouse II:
The strategy of having a constant (even if low key) presence with events and so on, was concensed to. Luckily there is a lot of groups working on this with us.
We adjourned at 9:05.
Submitted by ??
Liz Brandt, the local head of the ACLU, will be asked (Mary? Kim?) if she could present briefly to us on the ramifications of the patriot act to our work, as well as to a larger public forum which we will possibly set up in the future. Dean mentioned the Lutheran Church as a location.
3/15/03, Friendship Square, 12:00 noon Chris will check on a permit to gather People will bring “cards” (to wear? to mail? to hand out?) in response to Bush’s “Show your cards” rhetoric
Possibly this will be a silent vigil? 1 hour?
That’s all I got on paper; If I didn’t get down all the stuff which people said they’d do, I at least got everything I said I would do (I hope).
