Minutes of January 26 meeting of the Palouse Peace Coalition:
Chris LaPaglia called the meeting to order. There were 26 people present.
We will meet again in one week, Sunday February 2. Bob Johnson will
facilitate the meeting.
1. The Teach-in Committee reported: There will be a repeat of the UI teach-in
at WSU on Tuesday 7:00 January 28 at Todd Hall. The No Terror group at
WSU will take care of advertising. Members of our group will be there to man
(woman?) tables and provide support for the speakers. We will also be showing
a movie on both campuses the week of February 3rd - details to follow.
2. The Fundraising Committee:
Rani and Bob reported on fundraising activities and plans. The group voted to empower
the committee to make plans on behalf of the group as a whole. We also decided to
open a Palouse Peace Coalition bank account; Bob Johnson and Rani Haider will serve
as treasurers.
3. We discussed the newspaper ads. We have no plans to do another full page ad at
this time, but Bertie is still taking names.
4. Emergency call to action: In the event of war, we need to prepare for a large gathering of protesters; will need to have some attention to potential speakers, provide fliers on campuses alerting people to times and places, etc. If hostilities occur after 5:00 pm on a certain day we will meet at noon the next day; if they occur before, we will gather at 5:00. Meeting places will be (tentatively) Friendship Square in Moscow and by the clock at the public library in Pullman. Carl Mickelsen, Walt Miller, and Jerry Swenson are on the committee to plan for emergency action in the event of war. It was recommended that we check out the website PPC's Old Web address
7. And, from the Valley Peace Coalition in Lewiston:
If you would pass this on to your group etc; it would be very appreciated. Beginning February 1st our weekly meeting will be held on Saturdays at 10:00 A.M. in the Orchards Methodist Church on Burrell in the Lewiston Orchards. Since we have had members from both our groups attend each others functions lately, a suggestion was made at our last meeting that we should consider an event together to join forces in order to draw more attention to our efforts, a possibility in the near future? Thanks and peace to all!
