Minutes February 9 meeting of the Palouse Peace Coalition:

Carmen Wilbourn facilitator, Jim Weddell, spotter.

Bumper stickers:

Dave Peckham reported that he has ordered 250 bumper stickers with the logo, Support our Troops/Oppose the War, and they should arrive by next Friday.

Discussion of the February 15 Rally:

Our local rally will coincide with an International day of protest and peace activism. Kenton reserved Friendship Square for 12:00 to 2:00 on that day. The Justice Alliance has signs and Kajsa will make sure that they are there on Saturday. Chris will be in charge of bringing the peace banners, and Dean will bring the US flag, and the large peace flag. It was decided by the group that our logo for this rally will be JOIN THE WORLD/SAY NO TO WAR. Chris and Ron will write up a press release, and Kim will make up a poster, get it to the e-mail list, and by tomorrow, it will be available to download and disperse to our communities (It's already here! Wow! Thanks, Kim). When we get our posters, Ron will disperse them to WSU, Carl will cover the Moscow High School, Kajsa (and Chris?) will cover UI, Carmen will cover Pullman HS, and Sharon will fill UI campus mailboxes. It was agreed to provide the UI Justice Alliance with $$ for copying expenses from our funds. Bob and Chris will make sure we have a sound system for that day. We discussed purchasing an ad in the local papers, but decided to table that decision at this time. Dave proposed that interested people get together to make signs, possibly this Thursday. He will get back to me via this listserv re further information and I will keep everyone informed. Chris LaPaglia will be the point person for this event.

The Emergency Response committee has a draft of the plan for local action in case war breaks out. We discussed writing a press release or a newspaper ad letting people know that plans are in the works for simultaneous protests in both communities. Bob will check on costs for ads in the local newspapers.

Jim Prall gave a brief report on draft counseling and his experiences during the Vietnam War. He plans to reinstate his work on this, and will report at subsequent meetings.

The Peace and Justice Action League from Spokane will be in Moscow to share information with us on Sunday February 23. This has not yet been confirmed, so we'll keep you posted on final plans.

The video, Hidden Wars of Desert Storm, is from all accounts a powerful experience, and the group feels strongly that it needs to be seen by as many people as possible. We will plan future showing of this video.

The Critical Mass Bike ride attracted 50 riders, and will be repeated this next Friday. All interested people are encouraged to meet at 4:00 Friday February 14 at East City Park to ride bikes or walk to gas stations, distributing leaflets pointing out America's oil dependence and its connection with the middle East hostilities. Thank you for all who took part in this demonstration.

Kajsa spoke on the Networking Committee. They have been in contact with members of other peace organizations throughout Idaho and Eastern Washington.

Our next meeting will be at the Campus Christian Center, Sunday February 16 at 7:00 pm. Kim will be the facilitator, Carmen will be spotter.
