Minutes February 16, 2003 Palouse Peace Coalition meeting:
Moderator Kim Garland Campbell called the meeting to order. We all introduced ourselves: there tere 25 people present.
There were a few brief announcements:
1. Ruth Kliger's cousin, Joy Gordon, who wrote an article on Iraqi sanctions for the November 2002 Harper's magazine, will be in Moscow for a few days over Easter week and would be available to speak to us. The Coalition gave approval, and will organize a time and place for her to speak. Harpers Mag
2. Kenton had digital pictures of Saturday's rally.
3. Tony Zaragoza spoke about a radio show tomorrow on KZUU; they need a couple of volunteers to speak about the local peace movement.
4. Critical Mass Bike ride continues every Friday starting at 4:00 at East City Park, and proceeding through town, with the message of the need for alternative forms of transportation. This is linked to a national movement. Critical Mass

2. Networking committee:
Members of this committee are Kajsa, Kenton, Walt, Nancy, Michelle, and Jerry. They plan
to facilitate between groupsn and do a weekly calendar. Kajsa will get information to all the groups. We discussed the website; the LCSC site is, and was meant to be, temporary. Thanks to Craig Steenberg for providing a site for local, national, and internation groups. Tony Brown offered to build a more permanent website; the group approved his proposal.
3. Doty Dozier has purchased a few 12"x 24" signs saying in large print, NO IRAQ WAR, and proposes that people prop them up in their cars to advertise our activities.
4. Emergency Response committee:
The committee has written a draft for local action in case war breaks out. They planned to meet immediately after this meeting to finalize the plans.
5. Draft Counceling:
Jim Prall will head this concern (OK with you, Jim?). Sharon reported that there will be an organizational meeting for draft counselors Friday February 21 at noon at the Campus Christian Center. Bring a sack lunch.
6. Next Rally:
On Saturday March 1 there will be another national protest, this time an emergency convergance on the White House. International Answer
Our group proposes to have a local event that same day. Dean will reserve the Friendship
Square site for 12:00 - 2:00 on that day. Kenton will find a couple of speakers. Kajsa and Dave will locate musicians. It was proposed to also have a "mail-in" with a walk-over to the Federal Building to mail our letters to elected/selected officials.
7. Bike agenda - April 1
PCEI and the American Cancer Society want to include the Peace Coalition for their Earth
Day activities, which include a bike to work campaign, and a bike ride to Pullman.
8. Teach-In Committee:
The Teach-in committee has been largely inactive since the showing of the Iraq video; Carl will contact the members of the committee to try to get the committee reactivated!
9. Next Meeting:
Our next meeting, Sunday, February 23, will be at 4:00 at the Unitarian Church. Members
of the Spokane Peace Coalition will be here between 4:00 - 5:30 to do a training session on non-violence. We will break for a potluck meal, then will proceed with an organizational meeting. If there are any changes in the agenda, I will let you know!
