Welcome to the newsletter of the New Brunswick Archaeological Society. This newsletter helped us to kick off our fifth year as a Society, and our third year as an incorporated body. The NBAS is a nonprofit organization of avocational, amateur, and professional archaeologists, along with many members who are just plain interested in all things archaeological.

With so many things going on in archaeology in New Brunswick (and beyond), the difficulty in preparing a publication is not in finding enough material to publish, but rather in making sure everything gets reported. We include society elections, social events, and meetings, not to mention the fieldwork, conferences and research that has been carried on and is being planned in and around the province. In short, It is our hope that the publication of "FieldNotes" will be become an annual event, with a winter January/February), a summer (May/June) edition. "FieldNotes" is always open to submissions from members, so feel free to drop us a note, memo, fax, e-mail, etc... (see the Membership Form for our address.) We'd love to publish your book and film reviews, articles on archaeology or New Brunswick heritage, or anything else you'd care to submit. We want your contributions!  It is my hope that FieldNotes will fill part of the existing void in our communication with each other.

One of the FieldNotes purposes is, internally, to unite our membership through providing a forum for what you think is important, or fun and, certainly, to create an improvement in communication with other cultures, societies and groups throughout New Brunswick who have similar aims, values and interests
