Oghams, Is-Runes and other Runic Codes

One popular method of encrypting runic texts was by aett (row) and the runes place within this aett. The longer lines designate the (previously defined) aett, and shorter ones the number of the rune, counted from the left. Celtic codes consist of a vertical or horizontal stave crossed by longer and shorter lines and are called Oghams. Similar encryptions of the Younger Futhark are frequently referred to as "Isruna" or "Is-Runes", known from the "Isruna Tract" an medieval German manuscript.
