

Federation of Filipino Communities in Israel
For the period of May, 2002 to May, 2003
1. Organized the 104th
Philippine Independence Day Celebrations at Luna Park on June 9, 2002 for the
Filipino Community in Israel. An estimated 800 people attended the occasion and
participated in the program. Games,
singing, dance contests and raffle draws highlighted the occasion.
2. Coordinated and
attended a Thanksgiving mass at the St. Anthony’s Parish Church to celebrate
our Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2002.
3. Organized a CHRISTMAS
PARTY for the whole Filipino Community at the Hapoel Gym on December 21, 2002.
An estimated 1000 Filipinos from various Community Associations in Tel-Aviv,
Haifa, Jerusalem, Netanya and other areas in Israel attended the party and
participated in the program.
4. Convened a meeting on
January 3, 2003 of Filipino Community Leaders with H.E. Ambassador Roy Cimatu,
Presidential Envoy and head of the Middle East Preparedness Team to discuss the
preparations being made by the Filcom and the Embassy in anticipation of
impending war in Iraq.
5. Coordinated with the
Philippine Embassy to assist and monitor Filipino victims of the suicide
bombing in Neve Sha’anan on January 5, 2003. FFCI mobilized its network of
Filipinos in the Takana Merkazit Area to check on Filipino victims and to
report their names and conditions to the Philippine Embassy.
6. Organized a donation
drive for Filipinos in Palestinian territories. In coordination with its member
associations, the FFCI campaigned for donations in the form of food, clothing
and children’s toys for Filipinos in Palestinian areas. Several boxes of the
said stuff were already sent to the Embassy for distribution.
7. Submitted a manifesto
to H.E. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on the Filipino community’s support
for the government’s anti-money laundering campaign.
8. Organized a
solicitation drive for the late Rommel Lacasandile, a Filipino who died on
January 27, 2003 due to kidney infection.
As a result, FFCI through SAFCA was able to donate ____nis to Rommel’s
relative in Israel who brought the body home to the Philippines for burial.
9. Member associations of
the FFCI visited Filipinos who were confined in various hospitals in
Israel. Among those visited were
Exequiel Bascuguin, Marilou Sumaculub, Beatrice Bagni, Marvin Salvador, Maria
Martin, and Nancy Gallego all victims and injuries of terrorist attack at Neve
Shaanan St.
10. Answered telephone and
personal queries on various matters including the preparations related to the
US-Iraq war, manual on preparedness, personal problems, illegal recruitment,
arrest of illegal Filipinos, etc.
11. Gave financial
assistance to the family of Roger Tunot in the amount of NIS500.
12. Gave the same amount
of financial assistance to Beatrice Bagni who had been hospitalized at the
Hadassah Hospital due to cerebral aneurysm. SAFCA also solicited more than
NIS1000 for Beatrice Bagni.
13. Attended various
events of different Filipino associations and the 50th anniversary
of the Theresians headed by Bishop Kamal that was held at the Latin Patriarch
Church in Jerusalem.
14. Upon the invitation of
the Franciscan Friars of the Americas in the Holy Land, we attended the
celebration of the Holy Eucharist in honor of our Lady of Guadalupe that was
held at the Basilica of Gethsemane, Church of all Nation, Jerusalem.
15. Reported to the
Embassy the death of Nida Parel who jumped from the fourth floor of their flat
at #16 Bnei Brak St., Tel-Aviv.
16. Extended our sympathy
and condolences to the family of Adeline Cunanan and Rebecca Roga who were
killed by the suicide bus bombing at the Meron Junction. Also held a memorial service for them at St.
Anthony’s Parish Church.
17. Participated and
rendered services to celebrate the feast of our first Filipino saint, San
Lorenzo Ruiz at the St. Anthony Parish Church on September 28, 2002.
