Well another
year of Oscar has come and gone and now it is time for me to give
my two cents worth. I'll start with Steve Martin as the host since
he started it all off. Martin I'd have to say did an o.k job, but
nothing special. He's a likeable guy so it's hard to have hated
what he was doing, but I felt he just didn't do much. This could
be because last year's show was the longest ever and they wanted
him to speed things up, but he just didn't bring that something
extra to the show to help make the night. I'd have to admit that I
long for the years with Billy Crystal's opening numbers. Now that
brought something special.
Anyway, moving on let's get to the awards. A
lot of them were your typical winners that weren't much of a
surprise or you just didn't care so let's skip those and get to
the good stuff. The first surprise of the night was Michael Moore.
Oscar has a tendency to skip documentaries that people have
actually seen so I was surprised by the win, but even more by the
speech. I knew that there was something controversial coming but
didn't know it would be that good. I'd have to say that it made my
night. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree , but I love it
when someone just let's it all go like that and speaks his mind.
It was great! Even with the crowd booing he still went on! I
haven't seen a classic moment like that since Brando sent that
Indian girl to accept his Oscar. I love controversy so I'd have to
thank Michael Moore for making my night. Next up on my list is
Eminem's win. I never thought that the academy would turn against
classic favorites like U2 and Paul Simon and choose Eminem, but
they did. This is great not because it shows that rap is now
accepted or anything like that, but because I can now say Oscar
winner Eminem and that is one of the funniest things I can think
of.
The next two awards I want to mention are
those of best actor and director by the Pianist. These were just
huge upsets that I never saw coming. This film that no one has
seen has managed to grab two of the big awards. I'm sure that they
are both deserving but I mean come' on did anyone see that coming?
Finally, I'd just like to say that for once I do agree with the
Best Picture winner. Chicago was a great film and if you haven't
seen it you should. I don't like musicals and loved it so that's
how good it is. Even Richard Gere was great. Also I was glad
to see Conrad Hall get an oscar. He had a great career and did a
wonderful job on this film so it was nice to see him recognized.
Anyway that's all I have to say for now on
the Oscars so if you want to talk about them some more head
over to the message board.
I'm done.
