Even if you don't support the Makah, please do not support the animal rights activists that are terrorizing the Makah people!

There is a great deal of controversy surrounding the Makah Indians, a tribe that has been granted the legal right by the U.S. government to hunt and kill a small number of a certain un-endangered species of whale, the eastern Pacific or California gray whale. Whaling has been the traditional way of survival for this tribe for over 2000 years, up until the 1920's when the whales were put on the endangered species list. Since then, the Makah people have suffered from health problems as well as lack of discipline and pride among the younger members of their tribe. Now that the whales are no longer endangered, there is no reason that the Makah people should continue to abstain from their hunts. Whales hunts are sacred to the Makah people and very important to their culture, spirituality, and social structure.
