PeTA Scouting for Recruits

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) is telling the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to "be prepared" to bring tofu and veggies on the next camping trip because catching and eating fish is not acceptable. PeTA Campaign Coordinator Dawn Carr sent a message to BSA President Milton H. Ward urging him to end Fishing and Fish and Wildlife Management merit badges.

"Promoting fishing teaches young people that hooking, maiming, suffocating, and killing is acceptable," writes Carr. "It is time to put the violent pastime of fishing behind us."

Fishing and Fish and Wildlife Management are two of 119 merit badges that a Boy Scout can work to receive. The WLFA encourages sportsmen to promote these activities to all youngsters by taking a child fishing and allowing him or her to partake in our traditional outdoor heritage.
